This week GYAK issue was 'spirituality'.
What is 'biblical, authentic spirituality?' How do you grow in it and maintain it? We looked at 2 Peter 1:1-11; Ephesians 6:10-18; and Galatians 5:13-6:5. The 2 Peter passage caught me kind of funny, which made it fresh and very interesting.
The articles we read were engaging, especially the one by Donald Whitney on prayer for the purpose of godliness. We talked about what might be 'vital signs' of good spiritual health. We also talked about how you might assess spiritual health in your life or help someone else think about theirs.
The topic of 'pseudo-transformation' kept us talking for quite a while. How do you keep from doing the right things for the wrong reasons? Do we set up 'boundary markers' (extra-biblical standards) so we can tell 'who the real believers' are? Do we assume we are okay because we 'had a quite time' today?
We wrapped up our time by reporting a bit on what we said our applications would be from last week and then talking about what we would do this week to obey what we had learned today.
Looking back on it, those two hours were food for my soul.
